Welcome to the course on Johannes Brahms

Things to Do

Enhance your appreciation of the music of composer Johannes Brahms (1833 – 1897).
Brahms was one of the giants of German Late Romanticism.  A master of orchestral, vocal,
chamber, and solo piano works, over two dozen of his compositions are staples of the modern
      repertoire.

Explore selected movements from his symphonies, concertos, piano sonatas, variations,
and piano miniatures, as well as his great piano quintet and various string chamber ensemble
works, and the profound vocal work A German Requiem.

Brahms adhered more than most of his contemporaries to the 18th century composing
conventions of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, Brahms, yet his ingenious innovations
influenced many 20th century composers.  Learn of these through instructor's talks and
by watching videos of renown musicians performing Brahms' music.   Biographical
information on Brahms and resources to further explore his music are provided.
